26 Oct 2025 – Grateful for Love That Takes a New Form

Today, I learned that my neighbour’s beloved cat, Gideon, passed away peacefully at the age of eighteen. He had been part of their family for so long that his presence felt like part of the rhythm of their home, a quiet guardian and a companion who had seen years of laughter, seasons of change, and countless little moments of love.

I will always remember my small but meaningful interactions with Gideon. Each time I visited, he would greet me with a gentle rub against my legs, his fur soft and warm beneath my hand. There was something deeply calming about his quiet affection, his unspoken understanding, and the look in his soulful eyes that seemed to carry a lifetime of love and wisdom. It was as if he understood everything without a single word.

There is something sacred about the bond between humans and their pets. It is built on pure, wordless connection, the kind that asks for nothing but gives everything. A pet never judges, never holds grudges, never cares about success or failure. They simply love, quietly and completely.

Gideon’s passing reminded me that death is not an ending, but a transition. It is like stepping into another room where we can no longer follow for now. The love we shared does not disappear; it simply changes form. It stays in the air, in the memories, and in the soft silence where they used to be.

When a soul has lived well, surrounded by kindness, comfort, and care, even death feels gentle. It is not a loss but a return, a reminder of the impermanence that makes every heartbeat precious. Run free Gideon!

Remembering My Own Angels

As I think about Gideon, I find myself remembering all the pets who have shared my life over the years, my ten beautiful souls who brought me laughter, comfort, and unconditional love.

Ebony, Blackie, Sparky, Oscar, Rainy, Don, Wolfie, Brandy, Cocoa, and Oreo – eight dogs and two cats who each had their own personality, quirks, and ways of loving. They filled my life with warmth, chaos, and joy. From morning cuddles to late-night walks, from muddy paws to quiet goodbyes, each of them left an imprint that will never fade.

I still feel their presence sometimes, in a soft breeze, in the sound of rain, in the way sunlight falls on an empty corner. I like to believe that they are still around, just in a different form, watching with gentle eyes and wagging tails from somewhere beyond.

Their lives taught me what pure love looks like, love without expectation or condition. And their passing taught me that grief and gratitude can exist together. The heart aches, but it also swells with thankfulness for having known such love at all.

Treasuring Every Moment

Ten lifetimes, countless memories, they all remind me that nothing is ever truly lost. Love is energy, and energy never disappears. It transforms, continues, and connects us in ways unseen.

So today, I hold a quiet gratitude for the love between pets and their people, for the peaceful passing of a gentle soul, and for the memories of those who came before.

Treasure every moment, hold your loved ones close, and let love, in all its forms, be the legacy that never fades.
