Today was about the simplest of pleasures. A Chococone. A cappuccino. A quiet table at McDonald’s in the middle of the afternoon.
Hubby was on half day leave. I am on what I like to call perpetual leave. And instead of rushing between meetings or checking emails while pretending to be productive, we were just… there.
No urgency.
No guilt.
No clock watching.
There is something incredibly luxurious about an afternoon tea break when you are not skiving from work. When you are not sneaking out. When you are not mentally calculating what is waiting back at the office.
Just two cones slowly melting. Warm coffee foam. Casual conversation.
It sounds ordinary. But it is not.
There was a time when afternoons belonged to deadlines, KPIs and packed calendars. Now they belong to presence. To laughter over soft serve ice cream. To sitting across from the person who has walked this whole journey with me.
The Chococone tasted better because it was unhurried. The cappuccino felt richer because I was not drinking it between emails.
Sometimes we chase big milestones. Solo exhibitions. Business incorporations. Health breakthroughs. They are important and I am deeply grateful for them.
But today reminded me that joy also lives in the small things.
A half day leave.
A perpetual leave.
A $2 ice cream cone.
A cup of coffee.
An unplanned afternoon.
That is wealth too.
Grateful for simple moments that feel like freedom.
