1 Mar 2026 – Grateful for a Slow Day in Kota Kinabalu

Today was one of those wonderfully slow travel days in Kota Kinabalu.

No rushing. No fixed agenda. Just walking, eating, exploring, and taking in the sights around us.

We spent a good part of the day wandering around the city, discovering little corners and enjoying the relaxed pace. Travel does not always have to be packed with activities. Sometimes the best days are the ones where you simply move with the rhythm of the place.

We visited Imago, the largest shopping mall in Kota Kinabalu, and did a little shopping while enjoying the cool comfort indoors. But as always, the highlight of the day was the food.

We had the yummiest fish soup, a simple local delight that tasted incredibly fresh and comforting. Sometimes the most memorable meals are the humble ones, cooked with fresh ingredients and served without fuss.

Later, we stopped for a nice cup of coffee and some coconut tarts. The coconut filling was fragrant and lightly sweet, the kind of treat that pairs perfectly with coffee during an afternoon break.

In the evening, we had a late dinner at a small local coffee shop. The seafood was unbelievably fresh, probably from the sea just hours earlier. There is something special about eating seafood in a coastal town where freshness is almost guaranteed.

Today we ate a lot and walked a lot.

Grateful for slow travel.
Grateful for good local food.
Grateful for the simple joy of wandering through a city and letting the day unfold naturally.

Sometimes the best memories come from days with no plans at all.
