Today was one of those rare days where time seemed to slow down completely.
We spent a peaceful, cooling day in Kundasang and visited Sosodikon Hill (often spelled Sosodikon), a small hill set amidst the towering mountains surrounding Mount Kinabalu. It may be a modest hill, but the view from the top is nothing short of breathtaking.
From there, you can see 360 degrees of the surrounding landscape. Mount Kinabalu rises in all its grandeur, powerful yet serene, while rolling mountain ranges stretch endlessly into the distance. Layer upon layer of hills fading into the horizon, as far as the eyes can see.
Standing there, I felt incredibly small.
Not in a negative way, but in a humbling, grounding way. Nature has a way of reminding us that we are just tiny parts of something far greater. The mountains have been there long before us and will remain long after.
I didn’t want to leave.
Just when we thought the moment couldn’t get more magical, a plume of clouds slowly rolled in and wrapped around the hill. Within minutes we were surrounded by soft white mist, almost as if we were standing inside the clouds themselves. The world turned quiet and dreamy, like stepping into another realm.
Moments like that cannot be planned. They simply happen.
The rest of the day was spent quietly back at our mountain lodge, enjoying the calm atmosphere and the wonderfully cool weather. No rush, no noise, just the gentle rhythm of the mountains.
Grateful for the fresh mountain air.
Grateful for the magnificent presence of Mount Kinabalu.
Grateful for clouds that drift slowly across the hills.
And grateful for days that remind me how peaceful life can be when we simply slow down.
Kundasang has a way of touching the soul.
