Today, I feel grateful for a deeper understanding of what prana truly is in yoga therapy, and how it applies not just on the mat, but in everyday life.
Prana is often described simply as “life force” or “vital energy,” but it goes far beyond that. Prana is the energy that animates us, the force behind breath, movement, circulation, digestion, and even thought. In yoga therapy, prana is understood as the subtle energy that connects the body, mind, and breath into one integrated system.
When prana flows freely, we feel energised, calm, focused, and resilient. When it is blocked or depleted, we may experience fatigue, stress, anxiety, or physical discomfort. Understanding this helps explain why breathwork, movement, and awareness can have such a profound effect on both our physiology and our emotional state.
What I find especially meaningful is learning how prana can be applied to daily life. Simple practices make a difference:
- Slowing down the breath during moments of stress to calm the nervous system
- Using conscious breathing to bring energy when feeling tired or dull
- Moving with awareness rather than rushing through the day
- Paying attention to where energy feels stuck and gently creating space
Prana reminds me that how we breathe, move, think, and even rest affects our overall wellbeing. It encourages a more intentional way of living, one that honours energy as a precious resource rather than something to be constantly drained.
I’m grateful for the opportunity to learn this wisdom, not just to support my own health, but also to help others reconnect with their energy and sense of balance. Understanding prana feels like learning the language of life itself, subtle, powerful, and deeply grounding.
