Today, I’m feeling deeply grateful for my neighbour J, who invited me over to her home for lunch. It was such a simple gesture, yet it made the day feel special and nourishing in every way.
She cooked a lovely chicken and vegetable stew, warm, comforting, and made with care. After lunch, we enjoyed coffee and egg tarts, lingering over easy conversation and a relaxed afternoon. There is something so comforting about sharing a home cooked meal in a neighbour’s home. It feels grounding and generous.
I also spent time with her cats, which was a joy in itself. Her foster senior cat Boy Boy is doing so much better now after all the patience and care J has given him. Seeing him improve is a quiet reminder of how healing consistent kindness can be.
One moment stood out especially. I managed to pet BJ, her very skittish and usually human unfriendly cat. This was the first time he allowed me to touch him without hissing. It felt like a small but meaningful breakthrough, one built on trust and calm presence.
And then there was Mimi, gentle and familiar, greeting me as usual with her sweet, weak goat like meow. Her soft, friendly nature always brings a smile to my face. We feel that Mimi is the one who encourages BJ to accept his human friends.
Today reminded me how grateful I am for kind neighbours, shared meals, and the quiet joy of earning trust, whether from people or animals. These small moments of connection make everyday life feel rich and deeply human.
