24 Jan 2026 – Grateful for the Chance to Give

I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to volunteer at the Thye Hua Kwan Moral Society Moral Home. It was a meaningful and humbling experience that stayed with me long after the event ended.

I had the chance to be the MC for the event, hosting in both Mandarin and English. It was challenging, but I genuinely enjoyed every minute of it. There was something very real and grounding about being present, speaking directly to the residents, and guiding the flow of the session in a way that felt warm and inclusive.

Together with the volunteers, we taught the residents how to make Chinese lanterns and small tangerines. Through these simple activities, I interacted with many of the residents. Most are intellectually challenged, and some are very elderly. Many are there because there is no one who can look after them. Yet, despite their circumstances, so many of them were incredibly sweet, cooperative, and eager to participate.

What touched me most was how happy they were to see volunteers come in and run activities for them. Their smiles, attention, and willingness to engage made me realise how bored and lonely life in the home can sometimes be. That realisation stayed with me quietly throughout the day.

Thye Hua Kwan Moral Home is a government funded charity that takes in underprivileged individuals, offering care and shelter to those who need it most. Being there made me pause and truly reflect on how fortunate I am. Health, freedom, family, and choice are things that are easy to overlook until moments like these bring clarity.

I am grateful to be able to do this small act of charity. It may be little, but it comes from the heart. Experiences like this remind me to stay grounded, compassionate, and thankful for all that I have.
