3 Mar 2026 – Grateful for the Journey Up to Kundasang

Today we made our way up to Kundasang, nestled at the foot of the majestic Mount Kinabalu, and the journey itself felt like part of the adventure.

Hubby rented a car and drove us up the mountain, a scenic two hour ride from Kota Kinabalu. As we left the city behind, the roads slowly wound upwards, the air becoming cooler and the views opening up to lush greenery and distant hills.

Along the way, we stopped at Tamparuli, a small town at the foot of Mount Kinabalu, for lunch at a traditional coffee shop. It felt wonderfully local and unpretentious. We ordered Tuaran noodles, a well known local delight. The noodles were springy and flavourful, simple yet incredibly satisfying. Sometimes the best food comes from the most humble places.

After lunch, we continued our drive up the mountain. The scenery grew more beautiful with every turn. Rolling hills, open skies, and that sense of being closer to nature.

We stopped at a cosy café perched on the mountainside, facing sweeping views of the hills. Sitting there with a cup of coffee and a slice of red velvet cake while looking out at the landscape felt incredibly peaceful. The cool mountain breeze made the moment even more perfect.

By late afternoon we checked into our cosy mountain lodge. The room felt warm and welcoming, a comfortable retreat after the drive. As evening settled in, we had dinner at the hotel and simply enjoyed the quiet atmosphere.

What I love most here is the weather. The air is cool, clean, and crisp. After the tropical heat of the city, it feels like a refreshing escape.

Grateful for the safe drive up the mountain.
Grateful for simple local food and cosy cafés.
Grateful for this peaceful mountain retreat.

And grateful for moments like this, when the world slows down and the only thing left to do is breathe in the cool mountain air.
