Today I feel a deep sense of gratitude for something we often take for granted. Peace.
Living in Singapore and in this region, we wake up each day to safety, stability, and the ability to go about our lives without fear. We walk the streets freely, go to work, meet friends, practise yoga, travel, and plan for tomorrow. It feels normal, but it is actually a privilege.
Looking at what is happening in Iran and the broader Middle East right now makes me feel very sad for the people there. Wars are always presented through political narratives, strategies, and national interests, but behind every headline are ordinary people who simply want to live their lives. Families who want to work, raise their children, and find small moments of happiness just like the rest of us.
The situation there feels deeply troubling and senseless. The imbalance of power is obvious. Powerful nations and alliances shaping the outcome of conflicts that affect millions of lives. New geopolitical powers trying to establish dominance. Layers of involvement that ordinary people do not fully see or understand.
There is so much lack of transparency in global politics. Decisions are made behind closed doors, while the consequences play out in the streets and homes of innocent people.
Israel’s involvement in the conflict, the United States’ role in the region, and the broader struggle for influence all create a complex web of power that ordinary citizens have very little control over. When we step back and look at it, it becomes painfully clear how fragile the world really is.
So much of global stability depends on the decisions of leaders. And when those leaders are driven by power, ideology, or poor judgment, the consequences can be devastating.
It reminds me that peace is not permanent. It is something that must be protected and valued.
Here in Singapore, we live in a society where order, governance, and diplomacy have created a stable environment. It allows us to focus on building lives, pursuing passions, and dreaming about the future. That stability is something I am deeply thankful for.
At the same time, moments like this remind me not to take life for granted.
To appreciate the quiet mornings.
To value the freedom we have.
To be kind to the people around us.
To continue building meaningful things in our own lives.
The world may feel uncertain at times, but we can still choose how we live each day.
I choose to remain hopeful.
I choose to keep creating.
I choose to look forward to life while remembering how precious peace truly is.
Today I am grateful for the calm and stability we have here, and I send my thoughts and prayers to the people whose lives are caught in the storms of conflict.
