28 Aug 2026 – Grateful for Being Shortlisted in the UOB Painting of the Year Competition

I am deeply grateful and honoured to have been shortlisted for the UOB Painting of the Year competition.

Although I did not make it to the finals, I am still thankful to have come this far. I would not be honest if I said I was not disappointed. When we pour so much of our heart, time, thought, and energy into creating something meaningful, it is only natural to hope that it will travel a little further. Every painting carries a part of its artist, so moments like this can feel very personal.

At the same time, many kind people have reminded me that reaching the semi-finals is already a feat. Their encouraging words have helped me pause and look at this experience from another perspective. Instead of focusing only on where the journey ended, I want to recognise how far I have travelled and appreciate the courage it took to take part.

Being shortlisted among so many talented artists is a meaningful milestone for me. It reminds me that growth does not always arrive in the form we expect. Sometimes, it comes through being seen, being given an opportunity, and learning how to hold both gratitude and disappointment in the same heart.

I am grateful to the organisers and judges for this opportunity to share my work. I am also thankful to everyone who believed in me, encouraged me, and reminded me not to overlook this achievement. Your kindness has helped me take heart, and it means more to me than I can fully express.

This experience has strengthened my desire to keep learning, creating, and improving. There is still so much I want to explore as an artist, and I know every step, including the difficult ones, has something to teach me. I will carry these lessons forward, continue working on my craft, and do my best to return stronger next time.

Lastly, my heartfelt congratulations to all the talented artists who made it to the finals. Reaching this stage is a wonderful achievement, and I wish each of you the very best as the competition continues.

Today, I choose to be grateful for how far I have come, hopeful for where the journey may lead, and ready to keep painting.
